I decided to hollow out the front bottom pieces of foam, not to save weight but because they are much easier to fit this way.
The picture below shows the stock one on the right, the cut piece in the middle and the piece that was cut off on the left.
I'm including a picture of the "hot wire cutter" that I used.

I just wanted to mention that the stock one works fine and this is only more of an experiment for me than anything else.
