That IS one of the current ASW techniques. You drop a weighted line over the target submarine, and if it hits, it drags the sub down to the depths. Of course it is IMPERATIVE that you also have a recovery float attached to the weighted line, so you can find the submarine after the battle. Nobody wants their $1200 ship to be lost and gone forever.
