Seriously great girlfriend, to have taken the trouble to join this forum to pick a great present for him, well she will have earnt her diamond ring and stuff.
I am going to throw in another suggestion into the mix here, how about buying your BF a simulator like G3 or FSOne (I think that is what it is called), he can practice as much as he wants etc, and when he gets the real thing it will have made things easier, also he can play with it as soon as he gets it.

I have no experience with this plane, but the engine and radio are good. And the site is good as well.
