Regarding the Sea-Tac airport thing: Interestingly, a Menorah is in fact a religious symbol. A Christmas tree is not. So the rabbi was off base threatening a lawsuit due to "equal time" for his religious symbol.
A Christmas tree has the letters c-h-r-i-s-t in it, but that does not make it a Christian religous symbol. No more than naming someone Jessie makes them a Christian symbol of Jesus. I worked with lots of fella's named Jesus (Spanish, pronounced 'hay-soos') and they were not all good Christians, lol...
I hadnt read this reply. I don't want to start anything and dont want this thread binned, however I disagree with your comment that a menorah is a symbol and a tree isnt. The star on a christmas tree represents the star that guided the 3 kings, thus making the star a religious symbol, also the tree is a symbol, simply because it does not correspond with any other religion than christianity. The menorah is much like the christmas tree, just a symbol. I dont think anyone should be removing trees from airports or anything, however Christmas is so overblown anymore that some people can get offended. How do you think jews feel, when they go in a store and everyone is saying merry christmas to you, not realizing hey they might not be christian. Again not saying they shouldnt say it, but sometimes it's too much. How ever much people want to say christmas decorations are holiday decorations, it's only because those people are christians. Not to say they dont evoke good feelings in everyone. The airport thing is just like everything else you see on the news one example of something being blown out of proportion and all over the media when it's only one airport, one guy upset.........etc etc.
Happy holidays
