Get the Trinity receiver box that is made for the GT. You can put insulating tape in it to keep down vibration and it seals so you won't have to worry about getting fuel, dust, dirt, water, etc. on it! Getting fuel on it might be your problem. In any event this should definitely help! I haven't had any problems with my receiver and it has been in the sealed box right out of the box! Which I use a Futaba 3PDF. I haven't heard too many good JR stories! Hope I helped you and good luck racing!
