Default RE: Advice: Don’t buy a Dave Patrick Model

After reading through this particular thread, I realize that my little problem with Super Tigre is allmost meaningless and insignificant. I bought a new St 75 and put it on my Tiger 60. It was a replacement for an OS 61 SF that needs a bearing replacement.

Anyway, I put the ST 75 on the Tiger 60 and flew it. After about, oh, 5 or 6 flights, the thing started making a ringing noise like a small bell was inside of the plane. I landed it and tried to find out what was ringing. It turns out that the baffle inside the sealed muffler came apart and was rattling inside.

I called Super Tiger and told them about this. They immediately sent me a new muffler. Good, right? Well, after 3 flights, the thing started to 'ring' again, and again, the baffle came loose inside the muffler. I called them again, and their suggestion was to get a tuned pipe and forget the stock muffler. They even gave me a rcommended part number from Macs. So, I ordered the parts they recommended, and got them in about a week later. Turns out that the muffler they recommended was a baffle-less version (essentially a straight pipe) which would have been way to noisy for our field (or for anybody else's for that matter unless you are in the middle of the desert). I had already spent about 80 bucks for the header and muffler combination but had to go out and buy another muffler, this time one with a baffle (also needed the back pressure for fuel feed). I could have taken the combination of the engine, mufflers both of them, and the header, and bought a new OS engine.

Contact with Super Tigre to tell them that they made a mistake made no difference. I am stuck with a muffler that I cannot use and a tuned pipe replacement for a defective design. What a deal.
