Default Rain & Snow

Every year my club has what is affectionately called the "Brass Monkey" Fun-fly, supposed to be held on January 1st, no matter what (unless it is truly unsafe to fly; lightning, gale winds ...)

This year in our part of N.J. it was raining cats and dogs on the 1st. Being a new member of the club, I figured no matter what meant no matter what, so I loaded the "beater" into the truck and off I went. I knew things were bad when the access road to our field was completely under water!

About a dozen of us showed up at the field, even thought the event was officially canceled. About (4) of us went up (including me) and ran the contest. Interesting dynamics of the rain hitting and rolling off the wing with a plastic cup holding an egg strapped to your wing! Did I mention the landing part of the fun-fly was dead-stick?

It took about 2 days with a box fan directed at the fuselage of my H9 EasyFly 40 (it survived the day) to completely dry it out. The contest was rerun on the following Sunday. This time, snow! Much more fun to fly in.

So now in my brief (8 month) flying career, I flown in rain and snow. I hope it is a long time before I fly in fire or ice!
