Install hardwood rails or plywood mounting plate supported by side rails. When you drill the mounting holes don't make them too big or the screws will work loose and/or not get a good bite into the wood. Before installing the screws run a couple of drops of thin CA into each hole and let it cure thoroughly (no accelerator) before installing screws. This will toughen the wood. After the CA you may need to redrill to clean up the holes but not a big deal. Plywood should be 1/8" minimum and 3/16" thick preferred.
