I'm new to this site, and R/C in general.
Buy a SIG LT-40 Kit. Build the kit per the instructions, and you will learn a vast amount about how to build an airplane, how to use the plans. Then use the plane to learn how to fly, since I assume by the statement above you have not flown before. Scale planes are generally not very good to learn on. It would be a horrible waste to see the plane you carefully build turn into a pile of toothpicks. while you're learning to fly the LT-40, you can be building your scratch build.
Also, look at the Scratch Builders Forum for tips, tricks, hints, and ideas.
The task you seek to accomplish is not for a first timer without lots of hands on help.
