Has anyone any tips on scratchbuilding?
#1 Decide on scale. (i.e. 4" = 1" (1/4), 1/72, etc.)
#2 Decide on powerplant (electric, glow, gas, static display, etc.)
#3 Decide on how accurate you want to try for. (Sport scale, stand-off scale, museum quality, etc.)
#4 Gather as many drawings, images, 3-view plans, etc. as possible. Color samples of any originals. Squadron markings, insignias, personal adornment added through service, etc.
#5 Get a wheelbarrow full of cash
#6 Decide on fuselage construction: molded, carved/shaped, framed and built-up (then carved) framed with stringers, some combination.
#7 Get bogged down in the details and take up golf or fly-fishing.
