Id image it must be locked, as when one of my rear outdrives broke it would just about move with an open centre diff.
It took a while to work out as nothing looked wrong with it. It was only when I rotated one wheel at a time and looked for the transmission turning, that I worked out what was wrong.[&:]

So I am not surprised it has taken a while for you to detect it especially with a locked diff.
