RE: 3D Suggestion
The Ultra rc planes you mentioned are 12oz, balsa, 31" span planes. They seem much like the Skeeter, which I find is the best flying electric I have. For learning I prefer a plane that can fly slowly and stable. I have 3 Fancyfoam planes - an Edge (semi retired) , 2 Ultra Bipes ( one dead, one in good shape). I never wrecked the Edge, just several fixable fractures. It flies flitty, darting around more than I like. The bipe flies very slowly while stable and was my favorite 3d electric until I got the Skeeter sorted out.
I have a 40" 3d Foamy Sukoi with the g-force wing. Didn't do much for me. I have Copperhead Extra that is very tough , flies great until I slow it down. It wing rocks its brains out in harrier. I have a Airfoilz Yak that for me is between the Copperhead and the Skeeter - flies fast well, flies harrier fair. I have only beat one plane to where it wasn't worth repairing more - my 1st FF bipe. It still flew better than anything else I had when I set it aside and started flying my 2nd FF bipe.
Really good 3d fliers can make the Edges and Yaks fly great. You and I may be better off with planes that fly great fot less-than-super fliers.
I also have an old Tribute that was given to me. It flies very slowly, harriers, hovers. It is not at all rigid which is why my friend got rid of it. He has a Skeeter which he loves. We built them from free plans we downloaded.
All of these planes break when crashed, some more than others, some are easier to repair. Currently I like balsa. You will probably like EPP for a while.
