TDI or 1.8T??? I have a VW as well, though a bit older; 1984 Rabbit GTI. As for top speed, mine probably maxes out at 115 or so (wouldn't want to drive that fast), but having a close-ratio 5-speed w/o an overdrive will do that.
Unchipped '04 1.8T w/sport suspension pkg & 17" rims. Heated leather interior - body, tranny and engine all built & assembled in Germany. Same engine as the Audi A4 (180 Hp). I chickened out at 145 mph as that was as high as the tires are were rated.
Only once - just to see . . .
Not much (but not bad) until you get to 2,000 rpm & the turbo kicks in. Nice 45 to 65 acceleration for taking advantage of passing zones along back roads.
My wife has a '02 TDI and reminds everyone that she gets over 50 mpg . . . but she drives
sedately.
I had a '77 Rabbit ith about 200K on the odo. Liked that car until the c. velocity joint on the passenger side disintegrated on my way to work one day. Hey look! Retractable gear!
