Questo, no multi-engine planes.

Charlie P. -

TDI or 1.8T??? I have a VW as well, though a bit older; 1984 Rabbit GTI. As for top speed, mine probably maxes out at 115 or so (wouldn't want to drive that fast), but having a close-ratio 5-speed w/o an overdrive will do that. I still have a blast with it at track days though, even if the fastest I've gone is only 85-90 mph (with the safety of a closed course). Oh yeah, can't beat the $2000 entry either. As for the doubters- Don't knock it until you try it; I've surprised the heck out of many people driving much more expensive cars around the track.

Back on topic-

As for the twin, I don't see it being a good 2nd plane. Just seems like it would make things overly complicated, and possibly frustrating, compared to more of a mainstream second plane (as people have listed above). Though I make this call having never flown a twin, but see it as being more of a fourth kind of plane. Good luck with whatever you choose and glad to hear you are having so much fun.

Unchipped '04 1.8T w/sport suspension pkg & 17" rims. Heated leather interior - body, tranny and engine all built & assembled in Germany. Same engine as the Audi A4 (180 Hp). I chickened out at 145 mph as that was as high as the tires are were rated. Only once - just to see . . .

Not much (but not bad) until you get to 2,000 rpm & the turbo kicks in. Nice 45 to 65 acceleration for taking advantage of passing zones along back roads.

My wife has a '02 TDI and reminds everyone that she gets over 50 mpg . . . but she drives sedately. I had a '77 Rabbit ith about 200K on the odo. Liked that car until the c. velocity joint on the passenger side disintegrated on my way to work one day. Hey look! Retractable gear!

NS wouldn't recommend that C-47 unless you're ready to plunk a good deal of money in and like fixing things. a single motor is good... thinking of the future is even better. i'm sure you realize what a beating you get when you sell used RC stuff so i wouldn't recommend that you get into things you're not going to be in for the long run. if you plan to fly electrics, then go ahead and get a parkflyer. invest in a good charger and some decent batteries. but realize that that stuff may go to waste if you end up back on the glow path. i'd recommend just picking up a used trainer (tons of them always for sale) and get your airtime on that. get it through your club so that you can hassle the guy if something goes wrong :-) seriously, though, if you plan to go glow, invest in glow. it'll be cheaper in the long run.

don't get into twins just yet. even though electrics are far tamer than glow or gas, they are still nothing for the beginner.

good luck!

ps. you might try the "pay it forward" thread. i know if you were in my neighborhood, i'm sure i could lend you a few things to cut your teeth in.

I don't think I plan to invest in a twin, forestroke. I will be sticking with glow, as it offers me more enjoyment, costs less, and is just as reliable as an electric in my experience. I find the Tiger 2 as being quite attractive, it and the Tiger 60. I find the tri-gear as having better aesthetics. Again, I won't rule out the Mach II as a second choice. I would like the idea of the Pay It Forward thread, as my income at this point is half of the poverty level for a family of four (with the exception of my being single, making me slightly better off). To be honest, I really can't afford any type of genuine recreation like R/C flying, and my extra money has to go towards car maintenance, insurance, and gas. The modeling comes from the desire to be outside doing something when the weather is nice, no different from boating or riding a motorcycle (and I can't afford those either).

Along with the Nexstar, I also ended up selling a half-finished Lanier Stinger 10. It was coming along nicely, until I ran out of money for glue and hardware. I took it out to the club once, and several folks commented favorably on the quality of my work. Sadly, I wasn't getting any support from other builders, so that's another reason it got included with the Nexstar package. I'm not saying that I gave the stuff away, but the buyer didn't get a bad deal either, I think they did fairly good considering the Nexstar's condition. I would REALLY go for a pre-build Stinger, since that's what I had started working on and could not finish, except for the cost of their ARF being beyond my means. I'll keep you all posted.
