Thanks - actually I just did PM Ralph and trust that he will get back to me. The wire reminds me of miniature coaxial cable with a center wire with plastic shield around it, with multiple single copper wire strands wrapped around the center plastic that contains the centre stranded wire. Seems to me that I will just peel back the outer insulation, group the outer wire strands together and solder the negative wire to this, then solder the positive wire to the center wire. I cannot see any other way but this should work.
