Default RE: Pentathlon Build Thread

Ok, now is when i start the first humorous part of the thread.. i call it humorous cause if i didnt laugh about it i would be crying my eyes out, thanks god i am going to make this one electric... let me explain.

Mark designed the fuse to be built upside down, when it is upside down, there are laser words say "top fuse this side up" , "bottom fuse this side up".

SO.. here i go, i get out the big ole ruler, draw my line on the building table and start gluing.. woo woo, look at me go, 10 mins and the fuse top and bottom are slotted together, dead straight.

Next, test fit all the formers, landing gear plates, nose ring, nose former, wow, this thing is built and together with no glue awesome.
-Disassemble and grab the square.

Slot, tab, glue slot tab glue (squaring each piece), more slotting tabbing and gluing... look at me go, i am awesome.

well, NOTE TO THOSE WITH A.D.D. DOUBLE CHECK THAT THE FUSEBOX IS BEING BUILT UPSIDE DOWN!!!!!

so i assemble the model and stand over it proud father on the machine to be.. i rock. i take pics, i send to mark ....

THEN.. i take measurements and send to mark, he quickly slices the 3d model and sends me back the EXACT former i need to cut out. SO, off to the band saw, whack slice and dice, one new firewall for electric motor from www.2Dogrc.com and i am on a roll. ( i used birch ply for this as i fear the dreaded outrunner flex front)

SO.. then i get another email and Mark has generously taken a top view of the plane with the former in place. yes, where to cut new slots and tabs so it just DROPS in, OMG this is too easy.

Back to the band saw, more cutting, more sanding, more pride (silly me) and away i go... notch here and notch there on the fusebox....it slides together perfectly.

At this point in time i crack open a refreshing cold beverage of choice and admire my work... onto beverage # 2 as i imagine everything dropping in place but something keeps giving me that not so fresh feeling.. whatever could it be...

i measure some more before i decide to glue in the firewalls...things seem different, or at least uncomfortable, i keep having to flip marks drawings to get them to fit properly.

nother refreshment, if i keep em coming maybe things will get back to normal....

Ok, tings are just to wierd, then it hits me like a bullet train and a flyin the wrong spot at the wrong time. I ASSEMBLED THE BLOODY FUSE RIGHT SIDE UP.

Now, you might think this is no big deal but as geometry and my enthusiasm collide, i have built in 2 Deg of perfect left thrust. oh yes, i said LEFT.

How in the heck did i do that, back to marks instructions, reading the fuse tops, everything says this side up.. oh yes, another beverage to now start easing the pain...

a quick phone call to mark to let him know i am a MORON and i can se him shaking his head, why did i have CHUCK do a build thread for me... why why why

mark, you are my ambassador of Quam... anyways, more notching, shifting.. THANK GODDING I DIDNT GLUE IT.

I now have 2 deg of right thrust and 0 deg of down thrust.

So, it didnt take too long for me to CUSTOMIZE another of Marks designs, its amazing, i could screw up an arf i bet.

Anyhow... things are back on track again and away we go....
