RE: Hangar 9 F-22 Raptor PTS
Yeah Horizon!!! Very innovative! The F-22 really grooves nicely in the video! I think it looks very well designed judging from the picture gallery on the site. I wish that this plane had been around when I was learning. I trained with a Goldberg Eagle. It had a high wing, flat bottom airfoil and a wonderful amount of adverse yaw. I thought I was a bad pilot until I flew a friend's pattern plane. I recognised immediately on taking the controls of the pattern plane that this is the way that all planes should fly. It would respond to my control inputs in a completely predictable way (the same while inverted too for some ungodly reason I'm sure). Leaning to fly would have been so much easier, I believe, if my first plane hadn't had so many 'aerodynamic quirks.' These quirks are confusing to the beginner and make them feel like they have given the wrong input when the plane doesn't respond as they think it should which can induce panic and then they do something really wrong. My guess is that high-wing trainers with lots of dihedral are a hold-over from the days of free-flight and the one and two channel radio systems era where excess positive stability was a necessity due to the lack of control surfaces available to the pilot.
