I plan my Spit with the MVVS 2.1 engine, which easily fits in a narrow cowl and has the right kind of weight and power.
BTW, I have begged/borrowed two 24V retract motors with large reduction. They used to be spare parts for an IVECO truck hatch lifting mechanism.
When run at 12 volts 500mA, current draw is low enough, and retract movement is sloooooow.
