I'm planning to build a giant scale Spitfire... I've flown some warbirds before (I have a P51 of TopFlite at this moment)... But no giant scale warbirds for so far.. I have a 83" Sukhoi with a Zenoah 62 (cc^2) which a plan to use for the Spit...
My question is: Is a Spitfire an easy airplane to fly for a giant scale warbird... And does any one have any suggestions which kit I could buy...
I was thinking of a 1/5 scaled Pica kit for myself....
Has anyone flown/built this kit...?
Thanks...

The spit is one of the easier warbirds to fly but is a little tricky getting off the ground because of the very narrow landing gear stance. I have the Yellow Spitfire Mk XIV and love it! If you feel VERY VERY comfortable with tail dragger's go for it!
I've heard good things about the Pica spitfire. That's all I can offer!
Good Luck!

I have flown both the Dave Platt and Yellow 1/5 scale Spitfires and they are very easy fliers. I did not have any ground handling problems with either of them but neither was over powered which probably helped. All indications are that the Pica kit is a great flyer also but I think a G-62 would be overkill for it. I've seen one fly very well on a G-38. I know guys have jammed the G-62 into the Yellow kit but it looks awful with all that motor sticking out all over (IMHO). However, for down right ease of construction the Yellow kit is a great choice. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I have built and flown the Pica 1/5 scale Spitfire. I think a G-62 not only would be over kill but you would have to cut up that beautiful cowl to get it to fit. I use an OS BGX1 and it fits nicely with a Jtec muffler.
The plane flies gracefully and with full flaps lands even slower than my Top Flite P-47!

So you finally found out were we are hiding Ruudje,
I plan my Spit with the MVVS 2.1 engine, which easily fits in a narrow cowl and has the right kind of weight and power.
BTW, I have begged/borrowed two 24V retract motors with large reduction. They used to be spare parts for an IVECO truck hatch lifting mechanism.
When run at 12 volts 500mA, current draw is low enough, and retract movement is sloooooow.

I'll sure be looking for "small" bits 'n ends, though I have a lot prepared already. I only need to fit the plane around all that junk, and finally give it some meaning other than gathering dust.

I also recommend Brian Taylor 1/5.3 design. If you really like Spitfires, Taylor's is probably the most accurate. Mine flyes great with a Moki 1.8 and lands like a *****cat.
G62 is not for this airplane.

I originally painted the model with silver aluminum paint and it appears as you run steel wool over the top camo paint.
The pictures are terrible, I cannot shrink the picture size witout it looking like 'lazily applied' markings.
If you check my website it has better pictures.

From: Perris, CA,
I'd go with the Yellow kit. Can't beat the price for what you get. Flies great and no ground-handling issues at all. Email Sean Evans (aka Yellowaircraft on RCU). He has the best prices on Yellow stuff.

You guys have this advantage over us,
Your building is done, whilst we have to start yet.
The kit choice has been made though and e have to live through thr process with it. It sure looks like a heap of wood that needs a lot of elbow grease.
OK Ruudje, let's stuff that combat project and start to Spit fire!
