Default RE: GP Cap 232

ORIGINAL: Blockbuster

Weak points: Hard to hover

I love flying this plane. It's fun. I think I need to add a couple of degrees of upthrust. It pulls pretty badly to the wheels in turns and uplines. That is the problem I'm certain why it's hard to hover. I'm in the process of adding the upthrust for spring flying.

Thanks
Barry
Barry do you have a "Great Plane Real Flight" G3 or G3.5 with Expantion Pack #1? If you do, I wonder how CAP 580 compares to CAP 232 3D? If you do not have G3.5 with CAP 580 you should try it! The reason that CAPs are hard to hover is that because it have a low wing configuration with dihedral. Most aerobatic platforms like: Yaks, Extras and Edge 540 have a mid wing config(wing sits on a thrust line). That CAPs piculiarity makes you pilot, work that elevator gimbal "extra hard"! I'm really curious what you have to say about it Barry.
blockbuster...

I have G3 but I only fly the Yak. I honestly don't really fly the simulator that much. It helps, but it bores me to tears. I attributed much of my hovering problems with the CAP to needing upthrust. It pulls pretty bad to the wheels on uplines, hovers, etc. This winter I added two washers of upthrust but haven't flown the plane yet. I expect to next week. I'm hoping it helps a bit.

But hey...this plane is so much fun to fly and has so many good attributes that I really don't care if it hovers all that good. It does the best waterfalls I've ever seen. I love doing waterfalls. It also does the easiest KE of any plane I have (the Velox is close). I have to use about 5% mix of up elevator to rudder but then it is perfect. I bring this plane to within 5 feet of the ground all the time. I love the way it flys. It's one of those planes that's just fun to fly. If I want to hover I'll go to the AirWild. But I hope the up thrust will help the hover and not hurt the other things.

Bubbagates (I think) was telling me that with the coupling to the wheels, when you are trying to hover you have to give it up elevator to get it to hover. Then when you back off the throttle, the plane tends to flip on it's back. More throttle and you pull to the wheels again. Those are my symptons. And also, even though I'm making 20lbs thrust, I have a hard time with pull out because I have to use so much up elevator to keep it vertical that it causes extra resistance.

Anyways, that's the theory, and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks
Barry
