Drew, a simple scheme and a good one for a first attempt is this one.

Start by covering the bottom with a dark color (Blue, red green etc.)

Then cover the top with a light color (White, yellow etc)

Then cover the top-front with the same color you put on bottom.

Finally, add a white pinstripe (If your light color is white) to give it a little pazzaz
