Default RE: Modeltech Cap21 arc???

ORIGINAL: mtwister

I was given an old Modeltech Cap21 ARC in the box, it has a 72" wing but calls for a .60 engine??? That seems pretty small for such a big plane. I have owned several 1.20 Caps, and know their flight performances pretty well, but they were Cap 231's and 232's. I've heard the 21's are proned to snap out at low airspeed. I am just wondering if this plane is worth putting together or not. It does seem like a good airframe for a OS 1.20ax or Saito 1.50 Thanks for any info.

Your CAP 21 ARC was kitted before folks flew 3D style. I do agree that a .60 would be on my own self-imposed lower end of the power scale, but if a lot of weight isn't added, it should fly scale-like (which is pretty powerful) even with just a schneurle ported .61. Today, a YS 1.10 or Saito 1.25a would be a good choice. The model is built strong enough to handle it - with some extra firewall bracing, which I do anyway with all ARF/ARCs.

I had one in 1992 or so, but sold it to finance another project. Sorry I let it go.
