Okay then.... from the top...
Ive looked back over the last few pages of Capiche discussion and said I would respond on any point raised. Much has already been covered by some of the team but here's my angle on everything.
1) Disintegrations. Yes, we had two wings part company n the Sunday which was a real bummer. This prompted an immediate examination of the remaining fleet of Capiche's. The two that went down did not have the balsa packing over the wing bolt plate to fill the gap between the wing skin and the plate to stop the plate bending when pulled up on the bolts. Everyone else had this packing in place. This is an important part of construction and should not be ommitted. Secondly, particularly if using bolts larger than 4mm, the captive nuts should be epoxied in place to regenerate strength in the plate taken away by the larger drill hole. Finally, as the boy found, whilst his had the packing, the plate had not been properly glued, and whilst I dont agree there is an inherent issue with the build then glue style of construction it DOES rely on people to use thin cyano wicked into ALL the joins. The building instruction has been changed a little to underline and emphasize some of these steps, which is on the flycapiche site now.
We are all pleased that this problem is not a design fault after all the testing that has been done - one relief at least. Both Dave and Phil will be supplied with a new fuz to get them in the air again - the wing in each case was untouched.
2)VAT and charges. Philly the charge that you received on those videos was an import duty I believe - not the same as VAT, and in place of the sales duty that would not have been charged at source. From Jersey, all you could be liable for in the UK is VAT. We will do what we can to ensure that the VAT footprint will be as small as possible for mail order customers.
3) Electric Capiche. I know Im "bound" to say it, but the Capiche 50-e really is great. Of course its a little heavier than the ic version with 16 cells on board (we think we can go down to 14 easily) but in comparison to similar models of the size in IC she aint that heavy at all. With the aeronaut 17x9 and Kontronik Fun 500/6.7:1, torque rolls are indeed very easy. In fact the eagle eyed boy noticed as much at the show saying he couldnt see the tail surfaces doing much work. Its true - there wasnt much need.
A few of us think that the 5.2:1 gearbox with 15x8 will be a better proposition overall as this will give a wider rpm range and better variable speed. This is the set up I will use in my proto -e, and after having flown Malcs on Friday, Sat and Sun, I really am looking forward to it. By the way, I am traditionally an IC man, and often feel elec isnt so capable. Not true of the Capiche 50-e. There is plenty you can do. Slow high angle k/e, and harriers included !
4)Mr Duo's long entry - I think Ive got competition here ! In short, the ST slot DID have a Capiche 50 in it, the PA man DID fail to say much, and it was that Capiche with ST 51 and throttle pipe that did the harrier on to the boards. That particular model belongs to Jerseyman Chris Munns and is flies exceptionally well, and nice and smooth (he has cg a tiny bit further forward (about 130mm) and it still harriers nicely ! Man on PA about Capiche is not a FUN FLY was ME ! And trusty old Phil Vandries had to go and make me look like a waz and the plane look like what it really is - AMAZING ! Its a valid point though, the model does it but its not a fun fly wing. Finally Mr Duo, I am a little concerned about your fixation with the boy ! Are you a boy or girl or what !?
5) Philly. Best you email me that shopping list and we'll see what we can do. Wait for the FLYCAPICHE News #11 though.
Bloody hell....... I need a rest now !
Have I covered everything ?
