Default The build continues...

OK, 2 hours last night, 2 hours tonight.

Fuz now just about complete (see photo). F1 and landing gear plate to be installed. F1 will have to wait until I have lined up the engine mount on it (easier than when on plane). The u/c plate will go on at the weekend (I hope) when I can install the T nuts for the bolts.

It is at this point I am hitting the limits of my building due to living in a flat. Major work, such as sanding, drilling etc has to wait til the weekend when I can use my parents garage (when I then have to fit in the flying), so final shaping and sanding to be done on the fuz then. Still, looking good so far.

As for further comments on building the fuz, the sheeting was a little bit tricky (perhaps lead into a false sense of security from the main part?):

- Read the instructions! The rear sheeting is 1/16, so I didn't think that wetting it would be necessary. After making a bit of a mess of one side, I decided it was, and found the other side far easier if damp. This is recommended in the instructions. Because of this I used too much force trying to bend to the contours at the back, and broke one of the stringers Still easily repaired. (Note: This is builder error! )

- Very little sanding was needed on the formers to get the sheeting to line up with the fuz sides. (at only 1/16, you want to do this any major sanding of the sheeting will quickly sand it away)

- I did have a problem where the sheeting for the forward fuz (3/32 inch) meets the sheeting for the rear fuz (1/16 inch). I wasnt quite sure which should overlap F6a, so went for the rear sheeting first. However, this then left a gap between the sheeting and F6a at the bottom.

Rereading the instructions I did see that it says do the front sheeting first, and this would have lined up properly. Though doing it this way, not quite sure how the rear sheeting would have overlapped with the front sheeting at the join. Still difficult to comment seeing as I deviated from the instructions again

Anyway, all is ok as I filled the gap with scrap 1/16 sheet.

- I suppose a template on the plan would have been good for the front sheeting to get the right shape, though easily done with a ruler.

So the fuz is all looking good.

(hmm rereading this post, looks more like a comment on my building than the Capiche!)
