Let me make a correction on the MG travel lock. I was thinking of a later model and M-45/M-46. The travel lock on early Pershings is at the rear of the turret, folding down to the left, (looking forward).....with the gun facing the rear, the barrel should fit as in my last message.

Sorry, 70 yr old memories not that clear and had to dbl check.
