Sorry I don't recognize it. Pattoncommander probably would, he used to drive them! Send him an IM with a link to the picture.

According to the Tamiya instruction sheet (pg 6), it is the Spot Light Base. It goes infront of the Tank Commander's Cupola. Guess they only got the light out when they needed it. Otherwise, it was stored in the tank.

THANKS!!! Now I see it. Where the spotlight goes is where I moved my Browning .50 to on my Heng Long Pershing. Maybe I'll use it on my other Pershing. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From left to right; correct, spotlamp mount, mounts slightly toward the center of the turret in front of the TC hatch. second is the Tank Commander's vane sight, mounts in front of the cupola for the TC to lay the gun close to the target for the gunner to pick it up, third; cal 50 roof mount travel lock, goes between the TC and loader's hatch, slightly forward. (with the MG forward, the barrel should drop into the travel lock slightly forward of the handle). When not in use it should lay down on the turret roof folding to the rear. last; cal 50 MG stowage bracket, mounts on the turret rear. In the HL, there's a slot for it to snap in.
Hope this helps,
Bill

Let me make a correction on the MG travel lock. I was thinking of a later model and M-45/M-46. The travel lock on early Pershings is at the rear of the turret, folding down to the left, (looking forward).....with the gun facing the rear, the barrel should fit as in my last message.
Sorry, 70 yr old memories not that clear and had to dbl check.

Sorry I didnt post a better pic of the turret rear. I thought with a simple google image search I could copy and paste one. But there was none to be found. I should have just taken a pic of the rear of my tank.

I think that's where the mount of the .50cal would drop into, has a hole in top right? I don't have my tanks in front of me.

Great pic! Now I think I understand how most of those things on the turret rear function. The piece on the left with the large round latch, does that go around the barrel shroud and hold the gun itself??

Right! That large latch goes around the, to be more specific, perforated (air cooled) barrel shroud on the main body of the M2. The socket is to hold the pintle of the gun's cradle as swathdiver said.
I think the entire M2 could fit in the socket and latch with a spare barrel in the barrel holder. I'm not sure what the SOP was back in those days.
