Default RE: Chip Hyde's Cap-X - Building & Flying

I've had several issues with my Alitalia Cap-X. First, it's very wrinkled, a small amount of heat will not take out the wrinkles and a bit more starts to discolor it. The wing would not bolt onto the fuse, I had to remove and relocate the blind nuts in the fuse. The horizontal was therefore also askew with the fuse when squared with the wing. No matter what the person at Chief may tell you, these are NOT the same aircraft. The servo pockets in the wing are a monumental pain, as the servo is designed to lay on its side. These mounts are poorly designed, and the screws that come with them are insufficient. The fiberglass covers for the servos are more gelcoat than fiberclass and are extremely brittle. Be prepared to butcher them if using ball links. The elevator servo locations are also different between the two. These are not major differences, visually, but the real test will come when they're flown. I managed to get Chief to send me two extra control arms, however, they are not the ones included with the kit. I've been drilling out the holes in the included ones to use 4-40 ball links on them, this will not work on the ones Chief sent me as they have a ball bearing in the hole. Anyone planning on using 2-56 is welcome to them. Anyone planning to mount your engine to the stock firewall: DON'T. These have been poorly put together with very little glue and pull apart very easily. Nmking and I are using almost identical setups, I'll report back on any observed flight differences when we get them both in the air.
