A lot has to do with how the z-bend is created.
A "proper" bend will hold up well.
Hey OP, good points BUT....
I've made plenty of Z bends over the 30 or so years I've been modeling, I think I have it down. Trust me the problem isn't with the bend it's the rod. I've made hunderds of z bends with good materials and never had one fail. Use the H9 rods at your own risk, I say there crap!

Could you be a bit more specific on the size of the rod and did you contact Horizon yet?
Bubba, The wire is .070 diameter, kind of a golden color. I haven't contacted Horizon and don't think I will.
