and join our Rudder Only cookup! It started out as strictly R/O but has since been amended to include throttle and yes even elevator control if you really want to. Free plans are available for quite a few R/O planes, mostly .010..020 and .049 but some will take up to a .15 and are allowed for this impromptu ( I hate to use the word contest here) event and we would surely welcome you and others that want to attend. The more the merrier!
As for .15 size planes and engines you will (in my humble opinion) find more help and friendly advice in the HalfA forum.
As for just building an Esquire and adding an elevator I advise against that as it stands, for such a plane was designed to be flown R/O and trimmed as a freeflight plane wherin you would interfere with its inherent FF characteristics by occasionally applying some rudder to alter its flight.
If you really want to do that it would be advisable to make some other changes in its inherent stability like lessening the angle of attack of the wing in relation to the stab. Remember the FF plane was supposed to be trimmed to climb and circle slightly under power and decend gently (hopefully to a safe landing!) with power off.
Power planes with R, E and Throttle are trimmed far more to the nuetral side of things. Many of these older designs have a lifting stab and this is a no-no if you add elevator. This too you would want to neutralise for better effect of the elevator.
Come on by and tell your story and see how many would jump in to help you!
Offer is open to everyone! We're gonna have a good time! Heck! Were are also allowing electrics! Like I said, it is more of an event than a contest! Come on everyone!
