Your method is the best way to find the most suitable prop for your flying style.
I'm going to put about 48oz. through the engine on the stand. After that I'm going to try a few props to see how the engine spins them. Spool up is very important for me as well. I'm tempted to go with the APC 14x4w, but I'm a bit worried about how high it might rev in the air. I'll try a few props on it and see what I like best.

I remember now RVM. Shame about your 82. I hope your new one gives your plane what you want. As far as the props. I have not put a tach on mine since I broke it in. The Zinger does pull the engine down more than the APC. At least it sounds that way. I am baseing my opinion strictly on how the plane feels in the air. Mostly how it reacts from a hover. Or how quick it will get in a Waterfall. The spool up is what I am after.
