best prop for FA 82

The APC is a good prop just be carefull not to over speed the engine. The 14x4W will let the 82 turn to much RPM on downlines. Also do not mistake the Zinger and Zinger Pro Series props. The airfoil on the pro series is much better. It is very close to a W or wide blade prop.

The .82 will rev the snot out of the APC 14x4w. I don't know that it revs it too high, but I've seen .82s go as high as 10700-10800 with the APC 14x4w and a lot of nitro. That said, people are flying their .82s at these static RPMs (which means quite a bit higher in the air) without any problems.
I use an APC 15x4w as I did not like the way it turned my Zinger Pro 15x4 at all and I was not sure if revving above 10k RPM was good for the engine. That said, my .82 was somewhat defective, and is currently being replaced with a brand new one. I'll post again if the new one changes my opinion.

RVM, I ran the 15x4W APC for a long time on mine. It does have a harder pull than the Zinger. I like the Zinger because the spool up is instant. The APC is so heavy it would shake the airframe every time I goosed it. If someone was picking a prop with max thrust as their only consideration. The APC 15x4W would be first with the Zinger second and 14x4W third.

Yeah I remember discussing this with you. When I tried the Pro Zinger 15x4 it bogged the engine down to around 8800 RPM and generated nowhere near the thrust of the 14x4w. As I said, I think my .82 was defective. I've got a new one coming early in the week so I'll give it another try. Although, I have sanded the crap out of the Zinger, so it's not exactly stock anymore.

I remember now RVM. Shame about your 82. I hope your new one gives your plane what you want. As far as the props. I have not put a tach on mine since I broke it in. The Zinger does pull the engine down more than the APC. At least it sounds that way. I am baseing my opinion strictly on how the plane feels in the air. Mostly how it reacts from a hover. Or how quick it will get in a Waterfall. The spool up is what I am after.

Your method is the best way to find the most suitable prop for your flying style.
I'm going to put about 48oz. through the engine on the stand. After that I'm going to try a few props to see how the engine spins them. Spool up is very important for me as well. I'm tempted to go with the APC 14x4w, but I'm a bit worried about how high it might rev in the air. I'll try a few props on it and see what I like best.

I just finished sanding the Pro Zinger 15x4 with 400 grit and 600 grit sandpaper. It is smooth as glass now. I sharpened the leading and trailing edges a lot - it is like a knife. I think doing this also changed the airfoil shape, in the sense it is closer to a thick, semi-symmetrical airfoil now rather than a blunt plank of wood.
To finish the prop I took some NHP 30 minute epoxy and took my heat gun to it to thin it. Once that was done I soaked the entire prop in it, then I wiped the excess off with a paper towel. I then heated the prop, to keep the epoxy thin, and wiped it again. I put on a second coat and did the same thing. This allows the epoxy to soak into the wood without adding significantly to the weight or changing the shape of the blades. It also fuelproofs and strengthens the prop a bit. If nothing else it is pretty. I'll post pictures as soon as I can find my camera.
I'll let you know how this works. I'm hoping it will pull about as hard as the APC 15x4w (it's got almost the same shape, especially now that I've sharpened and thinned it out) with a much better spool up and hopefully higher RPMs (to get a bit more velocity). I'll test it on the stand to make sure it doesn't rip apart before I fly it.

I've tried 15 x 4w, 14 x 4w and Pro Zinger 15 x 4 and always find my way back to the 14 x 4w. I have two on profiles and I like the throttle response of the 14 x 4w and with 3D flight I don't find myself screaming the rpms up that often. My two cents.

I also first tried the APC 15x4W on my .46 U-Can-Do, but went down to 14x4W. It feels like the throttle response is better on 14x4, for example when pulling out from hover.
I'm not that worried about max. rpm's, as the U-Can-Do is a pretty slow bird, I only use full throttle on vertical climbs.

Actually the 14x5 zinger is the ticket. you guys should try that. very little difference in airspeed over the APC. but the thrust and spool up are no contest.

It would work, though I don't know how well. I would be very interested in hearing test results. When I get more money I'm going to buy a few props to try. There is a Bolly 3-blade 14x5 that I want to try though I think it will be too much of a load on the .82, even with 30%.

How does thrust compare to the APC 15x4w? I found the 15" gave more thrust than the 14". I've actually thought about using the 14x5 Pro Zinger just because I would like a bit more airspeed. Some sandpaper should make it a great prop. I've heard modified Pro Zingers are hard to beat, that's why I'm trying it.

i have never tried the 15x4.. there is a big difference when comparing to the 14x4 though. someone did a test a year or so ago on here with thrust #s though.
