I should have mentioned that I did make a dumb mistake and glued the firewall in per the plans before I fitted the engine. I could have saved myself a lot of headaches if I had thought ahead. I should have known better.

Ripping out and reinstalling the firewall is an option. I'm building an all wood version so it is possible, although messy.
