It is measured from the leading edge of the counterbalance so you can get it pretty accurate. I found his recommendations to be spot on.

On a sadder note:

I lost mine not long after my last post. I was on a down line, pcm lock out, and Wham... I am expecting a very large Cap-X tree to grow in the location that I planted mine. (Airplanes, even the Cap-X, don't make very good shovels, It seems they keep breaking as soon as they hit the ground.)
