Default RE: Electric Cox PT-19 Conversion

Conversions of older planes is a common occurance these days and times and with the availability of half A engines (or at least the better ones) on a decline, e-power is becoming even more attractive as a power source than ever before. If that is possible.

While the old Cox PT-19 was one of the better plastic offerings as to flyability, its performance was never stellar. True, it was the plane many a newbie cut his teeth on when it came to powered flight and was very popular for a long time.

I say it could be done but I think the best way to go would be a brushless motor for better efficiancy. The standard 400 brushed can motor is pretty heavy and can draw some high amps.

Also if you want to do more than just taxi, I think you would have to go with LiPo batteries. Not sure how heavy a Nicad or NiHm pack would weigh to deliver the amps needed.
