It's just a great way of spending a few afternoon hours in summer hanging with friends and family. We always called it a bust becasue we would literally grab the watermelon and "bust" it open on the edge of a picnic table then tear it apart and hand out the pieces. It actually started at work. We had an after noon to kill and a surplus of watermelons on a very hot day and no knives around. It has sort of become a tradition now.
