Does AMA sanction watermelon busts?

In another thread, Liberator related his love for watermelon and called for having a watermelon bust. I think it is a great idea, and would be a fine occasion to invite others in the area to visit our club and join in the fun! We can enjoy the camaraderie and discuss all the wonderful things that AMA does. Has any club obtained AMA sanction for a non-flying event like this? I have many concerns to be considered in planning this event, for example our club doesn't have a CD. Will that be a problem?
TIA for all inputs, and please be careful to abide by RCU rules so it doesn't get shut down before we have the opportunity to discuss its pros and cons and potential ramifications for the betterment of AMA.

AMA sanctions contests, fly for fun meets, demonstrations, and other flying
events. An AMA sanction means that the activity is endorsed by the
Academy, is supervised by an AMA Contest Director (CD), is intended for
AMA members only, and that the dates are protected from competing AMA
activities in the vicinity.
Sanctioning also means that those participating in the activity are insured. A
participating AMA member is assured that other fliers are insured to protect
him just as his AMA insurance protects others.
A sanction application must be submitted by an Academy Contest Director.
Approval of the sanction is contingent upon the CD being current for the
event dates involved. Sanction applications may be obtained upon request
from AMA Headquarters.

RE: Does AMA sanction watermelon busts?
Sorry I can't resist asking this (I'm sure there's lots of others from around the world who are wondering the same thing)
What is a Watermelon Bust? - it sounds like it may be a fun event.
The only explanation that I can think of wouldn't be within the rules of this forum.

I suppose the question ref. the sanction part lies in whether one is going to "bust" the watermelon by flying the airplane into the watermelon. Remember the great discussion here ref. the paintball shootouts?
That might require an electric powered airplane as it just may contaminate the melon should one use a recip. engine powered machine. Could get a bit oily, etc.
OTOH there are those that might benefit should the fuel be the old Fox Superfuel with 29% CASTOR OIL. [:-] Watermelon and Castor Oil could develop a significant shoot-out of its own kind. That might not be a covered liability under AMA's general liability policy! Lots of things to think about there!

RE: Does AMA sanction watermelon busts?
It's just a great way of spending a few afternoon hours in summer hanging with friends and family. We always called it a bust becasue we would literally grab the watermelon and "bust" it open on the edge of a picnic table then tear it apart and hand out the pieces. It actually started at work. We had an after noon to kill and a surplus of watermelons on a very hot day and no knives around. It has sort of become a tradition now.

RE: Does AMA sanction watermelon busts?
Thanks for the reply Liberator - I was trying to work out how to bust a watermelon with a plane - it makes more sense now.
I was thinking that maybe when I (finally) get my Lancaster airborne - maybe I could drop a watermelon from it to bust it - That is definitely not sanctioned by the MAAA (The Aussie equivalent of the AMA).

RE: Does AMA sanction watermelon busts?
We sometimes use "Ping Pong" (Table tennis) balls - even less mess. but even that is not really sanctioned - our rules state (approximately) "nothing shall be dropped that may endanger people aircraft or property". so if someone does get injured, there is all the proof that it caused endangerement.
