RE: Just saw a flight box on ebay
IMHO, an appropriate field box is an old duffel bag and a charger that works on my car battery. Now that I am flying gas only, I don't even bother with that much stuff. Just a couple of hex drivers and a gas can with attached hand-crank pump. I still carry a charger, but it's a 3 inch cube that will charge li-ions and li-poly, 5 at a time.
These huge, museum-quality boxes are nice. They are well crafted and sturdy, however, if you truly just want to learn to fly, you must get stick-time. In order to get as much stick-time as possibe, you will want to travel light. I ditched my field boxes in favor of an old duffel bag and never looked back.
Take what you need and nothing more. Fly as much as possible and let others bring a hobby-shop to the field. Some people like to tinker more than they like to fly, there is room in this hobby for all of us. Just depends on what you want to do.
