the OEM servos are actually disposable. I found the first thing to go on them is the brass "pinion" gear at the motor, it sounds like yours has stripped. I found by pulling the pinion and flipping it you can get a few more runs in.

and you are right, the missing gasket will cause overheating big time, as well as great power loss.
