RE: Panzer III N
Karma 99, really nice work on the N, but the 75mm howitzer looks funny without the recoil mechanism. That big protruding block from the mantlet is a dual spring recoil system, that cuts the recoil to 10-12 inches and saved lots of room inside the turret, but was bad news when that box got hit. .without it, that gun could not function and could recoil back into the turret ring. On the exhaust, I believe that was designed for the Tauchausfürung, or snorkel river crossing models of the M.
Have to agree with the Mickey Maus in the late war years. They added and mounted anything that was available. Bad enough with the extremely complicated supply system that they couldn't get a proper road wheel or beraring to fit, with all the changes made from month to month. That's where all the heavy guns on 251 half tracks came about....mostly in Russia to replace unavailable tanks. I'm going to have to repaint some of my retrofits in Barbarosa theme camo colors.
