I think they may be concerned about having a switch for safety sake. Just get rid of the stock radio and you'll be plenty safe.

I saw a thread on the other forum where a banana plug like mentioned above was used by some EU boaters. What started it was that a boater went to pull the boat from the water, and the motor spun up.
