I'm installing a safety loop on the transom, wiring it into the Y connector for the batteries with a simple banana plug and socket.

I would like to do that but since I have not seen step by step instructions with pictures I am not sure I want to do it. I don't like drilling holes in my boat if I am not sure how it is going to turn out.
Could someone who is going to do this, please do a step by step instructions with pictures. That would help the rest of us out alot.

does the reciever get power from the esc? (BEC) If so, can you put a switch in between those?

Current draw while everything is at idle is very low. That is one of the reasons a switch is not factory installed. A standard receiver will draw around 12mA at idle and a standard servo at idle will draw around 20-40mA.

As mentioned a simple switch ( link below )will bring those figures to zero.

In order to switch off the ESC a switch would have to be placed between the batteries and ESC. This would require the switch to be able to handle in excess of 45A. I don't believe the required work and re-routing the wires would be worth the time investment and increase in total resistance/loss in performance.

If you are able to wire in a switch, you may be able to save around a second or two of run time during your 10 minute walk to the lake.

I think they may be concerned about having a switch for safety sake. Just get rid of the stock radio and you'll be plenty safe.

I saw a thread on the other forum where a banana plug like mentioned above was used by some EU boaters. What started it was that a boater went to pull the boat from the water, and the motor spun up.

The way people put these swiches on High performance boats is that they put a bullet connector in one part of thier hull, then another one near the first one, and then a connector to connect this. This would be able to handle more than 45A, and also if your so fancy you could build a mounting box and well have it plug it in, and turn it off and wtvr. Hopefully taylor will chimein and give some pics of his setups with it.

Thanks Dan, but that is has already been mentioned in this thread. I think that is what started the whole subject. In one of the other threads, someone posted a picture and it happened to have a connector system on it and everyone started talking about it.

How's it going over there buddy? We are thinking about moving to Shanghai.

In Australia a safety switch to disconnect the battery power is required to race. [8D]
