Flimsy would be a negative term. Flimsy would also tend to imply breakage, which is absolutely NOT true!
FLEXIBLE (in the right areas) is what allows the 4D to survive. It's a culture shock for most guys who fly only balsa.
I always say to folks at the WRAM and Toledo shows: "you can put together and destroy 10 ARFs to learn to fly 3D, or just one of our kits."
If you want to fly pattern and zip around the sky, you're not going to crash nearly as often as if you practice 3D. Go get yourself a pattern trainer like the Super Kaos, or better yet an OMP Fusion.
If you want to learn 3D quickly, then it's all about hovering in close quarters. The 4D is a fast track to success -- especially in conjunction with a good flight sim. Get out and practice in wind on those days when everyone is afraid to leave the ground. The 4D gives you that freedom.
