Default For what it's worth

I went out to the field today on a hot Sunday afternoon expecting the field to be crowded, only to find 3 people at the, and only 2 were flying. There had been a fly-in yesterday, and I guess everyone went to church and stayed out of the heat today. Anyway both of them were having trouble with their planes, one with a screwy servo, the other with loose motor mounts. I haven't soloed yet, and so after I while of just watching, I asked if anyone would mind if I did my ground school, and I would certainly get out of their way. I have a trainer with a big wing and and in the sort-of stiff wind I couldn't get even a couple turns on the bumpy grass runway without a tipover that killed the engine. They couldn't help but turn their attention to me and offered me nothing but advice.

I went thinking I would just watch others, but there is no end to the help total strangers are willing to offer a newbie. I especially love the old-timers who don't even fly but just go to the field on a hot day just to hang out. I love you guys! I hope some day to return the favor.
