It is not necessary to use a lot of money to be competetive, but there is some places where it is more expensive in the long run if you buy inferior quality.
Another thing is that for a total beginner it is wiser to get an engine that is easy to tune and do not have to much power because it is easier to learn how to drive that way.
I was at my mate's house today. He has a 1/8th scale buggy with a GO 21 engine 5 port. He invited me round to come and see it and tune it with him. Before i went round i had read up on alot of stuff about tuning and stuff. So he sat and watched me tune it and do some stuff to it. We took it for a run. It ran alot better than before he said. And it did sound like it too. Also he let me play with his rc car for 4 hours. So i got to grips with how to steer it and stuff. Dont worry. I just want to buy the good stuff first. So i can save my budget for other things to up the anty a bit more
