Still thinking about lowering the tank. Running the angled version now with no flooding issues, and rotating it to fully inverted will lower the carb only a few millimeters... but then that may be the tipping point that makes it flood... Hmm, well it isn't that huge of a job to Dremel out those formers. Lowering the tank won't hurt in any event.
