RE: GP Cap 232
Radar,
I understand all your points and we were just saying this plane screams for a good gas engine. Even the recommended 43cc does just fine. A big Saito would be fine as well but you will be doing pull-pull on the rudder for balance, I would think. The DL50 comes with a muffler the last I had heard and is not much more than a big Saito.
As far as your servo choices they are fine BUT the 8711 is a battery killer so nothing but 4800mah or bigger on Li-Ion would work. I have 8611a's on one 8711 on my C-arf 2.3 and up until I added the 8711 I could easily get 10 lfights on 4800, but now it's more like 7 and that's pushing it. I've already seen 2 C-Arf planes go down because of the load they put on batteries and the pilot did not upgrade his power system to handle it. Check out the servo info on Troy Built's web site. You have a servo that is capable of pulling 20 amps all by itself but probably pulling 7 amps and that is just one, not toss in another 4 for a total of 5 and you have 35amps fully stalled and doing 3D you will see times that all servos will be stalled or at least a good part of them
It's important to consider your type of flying when you get into larger planes and setting up for battery usage, servos and such but you probably already know that.
The 5955's are fine in any case but to tell you the truth, I run 5945's which were replaced with the 5985's and they are lighter than the 5955 buy almost 1/2 ounce so you could save 2+ ounces right there and have all you need plus about 25% to 35% extra for torque with the 5985's and save a few bucks in the process.
Check out troy built for the servo prices, somewhat cheaper than Tower and shipping is not bad at all. Servo City often has 4 packs for a decent price with free shipping
I have several hundred flights on mine, I could probably bolt the wing on blindfolded as well as fueling it up and starting it I know it so well. My total layout is
DA50 with 3 inch standoffs
J'Tec Pitts muffler
Either a PT models 22x8 or a Vess 22A depending on my mood
Pete's CF spinner 3.5 inch I think
1 2400 Fromeco Li-ION for the ignition
1 Smartfly 5.2v regulator for the ignition
1 Smart fly optical kill for the engine into the gear channel
1 4800Mah Fromeco for the receiver
1 Fromeco badger switch for the reciever with 2 output leads for the receiver
Hitec 5945's all around on the surfaces
Hitec 6975 Hi speed servo for the throttle
JWB 1.5 inch servo arms on ALL servos
Titanium links on everything but the rudder
Central Hobbies CF rod kit for the rudder
Stock fuel tank in the stock position
Stock control horns
Sullivan tail wheel (stock one does not last long though mine did make it through most of last season)
I only installed one servo tray in the plane, the throttle servo is installed on it and the battery/regulator is mounted to the center piece where the rudder servo would normally go
Wheel pants are on
Total empty weight is right on 13lbs 10 ounces
This plane will out climb every other GP Cap232 it has come accross with the CF Prop. The Vess has better pull so it's a bit slower but the downlines do not gain speed and fully stalled flight has much better airflow than the CF prop
