Default RE: Anyone fly glow on their own property?

When I lived in northern Illinois I had my house on my 15 acre flying field. It was great! I even had the club over for a fly in. All I had to do is make a couple of calls on a Saturday afternoon and all my flying buddies were over. I went through tons of glow fuel during the time I lived there.

On the down side, I had to buy a full size tractor and finish mowing deck. Mowing just the flying strip took and hour and a half. Also, putting in grass was expensive. Then all the fertalizer. Also I had to build a sprayer to pull behind a 4 wheeler and blow down 2-4-D to keep the weeds down.

The up side of having a flying field must be greater than all the downsides because I'm going to do it again in central Texas near Abilene where I have 20 acres of land. Only 3 more years to go and I will be retired living on my own flying field. Now all I need is to meet a new set of flying buddies in that area.
