Getting back to your original question, you should not have a problem with carb icing on a glow engine. Glow engines can be difficult to start at very low temps, say 10F (about -10C). Given England's climate, you should not have a problem at any temp you may encounter. I generally don't like to fly if the temp is much below 10F, just because fingers tend to get cold fast.
When I fly in the winter, I usually wear a pair of thin wool gloves, with mittens over them. For the brief time I am actually flying, I take off the mittens. A trick to use to warm up the engine for starting is to hold it behind the exhaust of a running car. Just make sure you don't cause your covering to come off.
