Removing the insert lowers backpressure a bit, and at the same time it lowers muffler to fuel tank pressure while increasing noise.

Some are reporting gaining as much as 300-400 RPM this way.

I compromised and remove the round insert, then drill out the stamped holes, and finally sanded off all of the filings, and cleaned the insert before re-installing it.
