Default RE: Question for F-18 drivers.

Philo,

I guess it just depends on how you like the jet to "feel". On my F-15 (SM) I have it conventional (flaps, ailerons, elevators) but the 5 other F-15s at my field are/were all tailerons and they all told me I should fly the -15 that way.

I switched it over to that configuration and HATED it. I then returned it back to conventional and over 100 flights later it's still going strong.

On my F-18F (SM also) I am flying it conventional and am very happy with it. I was actually surprised at how sensitive and responsive the ailerons are and had to dial them down quite a bit after the first few flights.

Will tailerons work on the F-18? Sure will. Will it look cool when you do a control check on the ground? Oh yea...sure will. Do you really need to do it to make the jet fly better? Not at all. All that being said, I think Rav set his Hornet up with tailerons so he should be a good guy to talk to about the set up, and I have not flown a Yellow -18 so maybe it flies different and they would work better that way.
